The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. ~Romans 13:12
Something about the turning of the year just fills us with that burning resolve, that steadfast hope that starting now, something will be different.
New beginnings are exciting. They're rejuvenating. No matter how terrifying the first step of a journey may be, there always seems to be an underlying thrill that gives us the courage we need to take the plunge. Setting out on an adventure with Christ is one such new beginning: a quest where the road is difficult, the future is unknown, the wages require waiting, and the reward is promised only to those who see it through to the end.
But the reward is ETERNAL, the blessings are beautiful, and we don't make the journey alone. It's the best of the best of new beginnings, leading to the best imaginable end.
2020 is, in many ways, an opportunity for new beginnings. Another year has come and gone and the Lord is yet granting us time—time to submit to God's marvellous grace, time to accept Jesus Christ as Saviour, time to burn brighter and bolder as lights in this dark world that needs God so desperately. The old year is over, and with its death, all the mistakes, all the failings, all the struggles and trials have been swept up and locked in the vault of the past. That time is far spent; a new day is at hand. It's 2020, and this is the time to choose light over darkness, Jesus over sin.
An adventure awaits beyond our wildest imaginings if we only have the courage to follow Christ into the unknown. He will be our compass, our captain, our defender, if we only choose to cast off works of darkness, and face 2020 clad in the armour of light.
